I shared this in a comment section of David French’s Sunday Dispatch column, The French Press. My response got several “Likes” so I decided to post it here, too!
Jesus tells us to love one another. And New Testament Scripture basically says “they’ll know we are Christians by our love.” If we Christians really lived that way, not as doormats to the culture, but just living our lives with the love of Jesus flowing through us, merciful and compassionate, patient and understanding, perhaps more people living a ‘secular life’ would find us more compelling and attractive. I’ve read that the early Christians used to save the babies that Romans abandoned (girls and with birth defects). That example of loving one’s neighbor and taking care of “the least of these” probably converted more pagans than condemning their way of life ever did.
